Services for  law enforcement and garbage pick-up are provided through contracts with Tyrrell County.  Fire protection is provided by the Tyrrell Volunteer Fire Department under contract with the Town of Columbia.  This service results in a positive fire insurance rating and lower homeowner insurance rates for the town residents and businesses.  Medical services are provided by the Tyrrell/Washington EMS Service.  The management and governing bodies work together to provide these services for the residents of the Town of Columbia.  Questions concerning these services can be addressed to either the town or county offices.
